Donor Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the Fertility North Donor Program?

Our program is overseen by an experienced Donor Coordinator and team who provides ongoing information and support, as well as the planning and organisation of donor appointments, counselling, screening tests and treatments.  Our program is fully accredited at both a state and federal level, offering absolute safety and peace of mind to donors and recipients alike.

Who can donate to the program?

Our donors must all be at least 18 years and six months old at the time of donation, with the upper age limit capped between 37 and 46 years of age in accordance with the material that is being donated.  You can find specific information regarding this on each of the egg, sperm and embryo pages.

All donors must undertake:

  • An initial donor counselling session with an accredited Fertility Counsellor
  • A 3 month ‘cooling off’ period (which may or may not coincide with a quarantine period)
  • Comprehensive medical and genetic screening
  • A second counselling session anytime following the completion of the cooling off period

Who can receive donated sperm, eggs or embryos?

Those who wish to undertake treatment with donated eggs, sperm and embryos must be aged between 18 years and six months and 52 years old.

All recipients must undertake:

  • Initial donor counselling session with an accredited Fertility Counsellor
  • A 3 month ‘cooling off’ period
  • Screening tests and medical questionnaires
  • A second counselling session anytime following the completion of the cooling off period

How long is the wait time for donors?

Currently, there is no wait time for local or international sperm and oocyte (egg) donors. Once you have completed the mandatory 3-month cooling-off period, attended two counselling sessions with our ANZICA-accredited counsellor, and we have received all required test results, you will be ready to begin the process of viewing suitable donor profiles.

Do you have local oocyte donors?

Yes! We have over five years’ experience in coordinating generous individuals who altruistically donate their eggs to help others become parents. To date, we have successfully matched local egg donors with over 100 recipients.

Can I access an international sperm bank?

Yes – Fertility North has partnered exclusively with Seattle Sperm Bank for over 14 years. All international donors made available to Fertility North meet the legislative requirements of Western Australia and are exclusive to Fertility North patients, ensuring the five-family worldwide limit is maintained and adhered to.

How do I access donor profiles?

Once you have completed the necessary steps to proceed, our Donor Team will send you a curated list of genetically suitable donor profiles.

We do not use a public database for donor selection. Instead, we offer a personalised, supported process where you are guided by your dedicated Donor Coordinator, ensuring that each donor offered is appropriate and aligned with your individual needs.

Can my known donor live interstate or overseas?

Yes. We have extensive experience working with clinics across Australia and internationally to help coordinate treatment involving known donors who live outside Western Australia.

Can I meet with a Donor Coordinator before becoming a patient?

Absolutely! We welcome the opportunity to speak with you in person, by phone, or via email. Our team is happy to answer your questions about the donor process, whether you’re considering a known or unknown donor, or simply want to learn more about our program and facilities before committing to treatment with Fertility North.
