Donor Program

Donor Sperm Perth

Since our inception in 2002, Fertility North has grown to offer one of Perth’s leading donor program.  With sperm donors from Perth and overseas, our program is safe, certified and successful.

What is a sperm donor?

A sperm donor is a person who donates their sperm, or spermatozoa, for another person or couple to use for the purposes of reproduction.

A sperm donor can be known or unknown to their recipient, but it is important to note that since the implementation of legislation in 2004, anonymous sperm donation is no longer possible. The difference between unknown and anonymous donation is that any unknown donor conceived people are able to access identifying information about their donor at age 16 through the Donor Conception Information Service should they wish to.

Known sperm donor

A known donor is a person who chooses to donate their sperm to a person they know.  This may be a family member or a friend who lives locally, interstate or overseas.

Unknown sperm donor

Unknown sperm donors are those who altruistically donate their sperm to a fertility clinic for use in donor conception for recipients allocated by the fertility clinic.  Fertility North offers local and international sperm donors.

Who is eligible to donate their sperm?

Sperm donors can include anyone with sperm who is:

  • At least 18 years and six months of age
  • Less than 46 years of age

All sperm donors are required to undertake:

  • An initial donor counselling session with an accredited Fertility Counsellor
  • A 3 month ‘cooling off’ period (which may or may not coincide with a quarantine period)
  • Comprehensive medical and genetic screening
  • A second counselling session anytime following the completion of the cooling off period
