Dr Barton Smith has been working as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in metropolitan and country hospitals throughout WA since 2011. With a special interest in both female and male aspects of infertility, Bart is currently completing his masters in reproductive medicine, and works as a specialist obstetrician at Joondalup Hospital. He is particularly interested in reproductive genetics and is actively researching the hazards of intravenous iron use during pregnancy.
Prior to becoming a doctor, Bart was an exploration geologist for 10 years, obtaining his PhD in optically stimulated luminescence dating. Bart is passionate about the extinction of Australian megafauna, indigenous archaeology, and the first nations response to changing climate over the past 60,000 years.
In his spare time, he is an avid classical guitarist, plays in a rock band in Perth, and enjoys gardening, cooking, renovating, Australian rules footy, golf, cycling, and bushwalking. Most of all Bart loves spending time with his beautiful wife and kids.
